About the Book:
Volume 2 in the Katie & Annalise Series: One unexpected and hotly fought-over little boy, two dead bodies, and a series of home vandalisms throw Texas attorney turned island chanteuse Katie Connell into a tizzy. Juggling all of this, Bloody Mary cravings, baggage, and the bad guys too, she waffles between the jumbie house that brought her back from the brink and the man she believes is the love of her life.

Thank you for this interview! I’d like to know more about you as a person first. What do you do when you’re not writing?
I’m crazy-mad for my husband and my one-eyed Boston terrier. We all three like to spend time outdoors, preferably in our little country place we call Nowheresville, Texas.
When did you start writing?
I started writing in the third grade. I started creative writing seriously in my 30’s when I finally got my courage up.
As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?
It’s a toss-up between reaching “the end” the first time on a novel, versus working with a critique partner on my third one and finally finding my mojo -- knowing I had written something good and could do it again. For me, it is much more about the process of creating than it is about the road to publication, and beyond.
If you could go anywhere in the world to start writing your next book, where would that be and why?
Angel Fire, New Mexico, because my next three novels will be set in New Mexico and West Texas. I can’t wait!
If you had 4 hours of extra time today, what would you do?
Oh man, could I ever use those four hours. I’d work on finishing touches to my next book, and I’d journal my summer book tour.
Where would you like to set a story that you haven’t done yet?
Well, how about Eastern New Mexico and West Texas? ;-)
Back to your present book, Leaving Annalise, how did you publish it?
My husband and I started a small press in 2012, and we published it together. We launched Leaving Annalise while I was on a 60-cities-in-60-days summer 2013 nationwide RV book tour, so I got the chance to really meet with readers face to face and talk about it, and about the 1st book in the Katie & Annalise series, Saving Grace. Leaving Annalise came out in paperback and ebook, and the audio book will be released in November of 2013.
In writing your book, did you travel anywhere for research?
No, but I lived in the Virgin Islands for nearly ten years, so that helped!
Why was writing Leaving Annalise so important to you?
I love Katie & Annalise, and I couldn’t wait to share more of their adventures. In particular, though, I wanted Katie to develop into a less self-focused woman and develop a nurturing side. We see her do that through some of her trials and tribulations in Leaving Annalise.
Is the book always better than the movie?
Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!
Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?
I’m inspired by the people closest to me, and by the things that happen in our lives. I’m constantly asking myself, “Now, what if this had happened instead?” or “What happens next?” and voila, the stories start to write themselves.
Any final words?
Watch for Volume 3 in the Katie & Annalise series in February of 2014: Missing Harmony. It’s my editor’s favorite.
