 A pretend courtship…a real scandal

London 1814 Hope Stuckeley has lusted after the handsome and charismatic Michael Ashmore, the Viscount Lichfield, for ages—never mind that she’s never actually spoken to him. When the two join forces to investigate a London stock market scandal, pretending he is courting her gives her the chance to prove she’s more than the bookworm he takes her for. After years of service as a soldier and newly titled as a viscount, actual marriage and settling down are the last things on confirmed bachelor Michael’s mind. But when their investigation puts the delectable Hope in danger, discovering the truth about the scandal could jeopardize the future he didn’t know he wanted.

How I Come Up With My Characters

My characters are near and dear to my heart. I think all of the female characters are sides of my own personality. The men, are bits and pieces of the men I love in my life. The villains are, well, villains, and I have nothing at all in common with them, but they sure make life interesting! In my series, the kingpin is Lady Lancaster. She is the first character I developed. I like to think she is me (with a little Angela Landsbury thrown in) in 30 years. She is clever, magnanimous, and seemingly always right. She has led a colorful life, which is only ever alluded to, as a former spy for the British War Office. She was brought into this life by her one true love, the Duke. Lady Lancaster is actually a dowager duchess and should, by all accounts, be addressed as “her Grace” but being called such reminds her too much of her mother-in-law, the former duchess, and Lady Lancaster cannot abide the reminder. Hence, she is called “Lady”. The fact that she can make such an edict really illustrates who she is and what kind of reputation/power she has. I have more fun writing about her and her thoughts than probably anyone else (besides Sarah). The five main ladies, who have been enlisted by Lady Lancaster to be spies, are all varying ages and personalities. Hannah is an all around clever sort. She can do most things really well and prefers not to acknowledge the things she can’t do. This is so very me! Rose is a bookworm with an eidetic (photographic) memory. This is more of a wishful thinking thing for me. I am a bookworm, but I would love to have a photographic memory. Hope is the math wizard. She is good at figuring out odds and averages. She is also very proper and concerned with what other people think of her. I have always loved math and I have an unhealthy opinion of what others think of me. Hope and I both need to work on that. Emily is the season’s “Diamond of the First Water”. That means she is the most beautiful and eligible lady of the season. She is also extremely charitably minded. She wants to save the world, one starving child at a time. Me too. Finally, there is Sarah. Sarah is unusually tall, rather clumsy, and has absolutely no filter on her mouth. This is more me than I would like to admit. Writing for Sarah allows me no limitations. She will say or do pretty much anything that comes to mind. Very liberating for me as an author. As you can see, I meant it when I wrote all my heroines are parts of me. I don’t know if all authors are the same, but I am sure we all use our writing as an opportunity to explore different times, worlds, thoughts, and opinions that we can’t always explore in our real lives. It is always an adventure and as much as it is coming from our own imaginations, I, for one, never know exactly where my mind will take me … until I get there.

Catherine Hemmerling has spent most of her career as a technical writer in the software industry, but in the last few years has realized her dream of becoming a novelist. Every day she pinches herself to make sure her new life is real. Living with her family in the hills of southern California, Ms. Hemmerling spends her days devising plot twists, agonizing over titles, and making a lot of new imaginary friends; and loves it.

Her latest book is the historical romance, Tempting the Reluctant Viscount.

THE MAGIC OF HISTORICAL ROMANCES
Joan Avery
I’m often asked why I choose to write historical romances over contemporary ones.  Certainly there is more research needed to create a believable and true-to-its-time historical setting than a present day setting.  I’m sure the origin of my preference was in what I prefer to read.  There is something magical about an historical setting.  It is a place where you can lose yourself for an hour or two in another era, another time.  There is so much to be learned from a good historical.  The customs and beliefs of a culture in the near or distant past can be enlightening to us today.  Women’s rights which we so often take for granted are really a recent occurrence.  Not so long ago a women in Europe and America found themselves and their roles seriously constrained by law.  The women who dared to push the limits were brave and intrepid.  Their conviction that women’s roles could not be defined by a society controlled by men led them to push the boundaries and valiantly fight for all the freedoms women enjoy today.  I find a great deal of satisfaction writing about these groundbreaking women.  For me, that satisfaction far outweighs the additional research.

Joan Avery was an award-winning writer/producer at a major national advertising agency for over fifteen years before she retired to raise a family and write. Joan has been blessed with a daughter, two sons and two stepsons. She and her husband now have five grandchildren. Although she has lived in the Detroit area her entire life she has traveled extensively for both work and leisure. She and her husband, an attorney, have visited many fascinating parts of the world. Joan feels her travels enrich her writing. THE WORTH BROTHERS TRILOGY takes place in three of her favorite places.
Her latest book is the historical romance, Love's Justice

About the Book:

The voluptuous Esther Wiley has always known that she is special. She’s a tiara-wearing, wand-carrying kind of Cinderella princess in disguise. The problem that her very own Fairy Godmother, the Prophetess Mother Reed, struggles with is getting her to live like it.

Briggs Stokes is the reluctant heir to his father’s worldwide, multimillion-dollar televangelist ministry, yet he yearns to be his own man. His past mistakes have caused him a private life of hurt and loneliness.

Esther and Briggs meet and develop a deep soul connection, until tragedy strikes and the two are thrust apart. Their separation leads each down a different path scattered with emotional minefields. While each step they take brings them closer to who they were always meant to be, the devil is on assignment. He sends in reinforcements to usher in confusion and create chaos, and soon no one is safe. The members of Love Zion church reel from the rumors, innuendo, and downright sabotage that is going on around them.

When others devise evil schemes to seek the destruction of Esther and Briggs through jealousy, greed, and murder, only divine intervention can save them. As an all-out battle for dominion breaks out in the heavens, will Esther and Briggs become a casualty of war?

Thank you for this interview! I’d like to know more about you as a person first. What do you do when you’re not writing?

I am director of social services at a nonprofit. I love working with people and guiding people in fixing their problems. Along the way, I learn lessons that help in fixing my own.

When did you start writing?

When I was a teenager with chicken pox, it was a way to pass the time. I ended up getting hooked, and stayed that way, way past the calamine lotion.

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?

When I found the perfect ending to my book, and then had to lose it. It taught me to be more flexible in my writing. While I can love it, if I have to change something and it affects another part of the story, I have to be okay with letting it go. The most important act is telling a good story as a whole.

If you could go anywhere in the world to start writing your next book, where would that be and why?

I would love to go to a place where I could sit out on a veranda, sip something fruity, and write, write, write. A morning walk and weather in the high seventies would be nice. It doesn’t matter where, I’m only going in walking distance from the veranda. No distractions, no interruptions. Just me, my laptop, and no writer’s block.

If you had 4 hours of extra time today, what would you do?

Complete all my writing assignments today. Then crawl in bed next to my husband and cuddle. I think he misses me.

Where would you like to set a story that you haven’t done yet?

I want to write a story set in Ireland. I think it would be a gas. Definitely something that has been swirling around in my spirit.

Back to your present book, The Devil Made Me Do It, how did you publish it?

Traditionally. I thank God I didn’t know how hard it was supposed to be. I found an agent, she submitted it, and it was accepted. Later I learned that, that just doesn’t happen. I did the happy dance.

In writing your book, did you travel anywhere for research?

My book is set in Detroit. I’m originally from Detroit, so . . . The research was pretty easy. I clicked my heels three times, and went home.

Why was writing The Devil Made Me Do It so important to you?

I love to write a good story, and I wanted to entertain with a positive message. I also have some nuggets of knowledge I wanted to share. There are some issues in the book as old as time (adultery, lust, suicide) and some new issues (self-esteem, body image) that I wanted to address and how we handle them today.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?

I love to talk. While I’m talking I actually listen too it’s a gift. What people reveal between the lines is as telling as what they say. Later, as I sit in quiet thought, sometimes in very loud traffic, conversations are replayed, and as a result, different stories fall into my spirit. A red light daydream soon becomes an idea for a story.

Any final words?

I appreciate you having me. For years my tagline was “For Love Alone.” Then I started this journey, and I found that my love alone wasn’t satisfactory. Other’s love was needed. My new tag became, “It takes a village to raise a dream.” Thanks for being a part of my village.

Madison Spencer is a serious medical student, focused only on work and hiding her beauty and her once-passionate spirit behind a quiet plain-Jane facade. Since she was drugged, stripped, assaulted and photographed by a vengeful ex, she has stayed away from men and kept her heart and body safe.
But when heart-stoppingly gorgeous Dr. Liam Mason walks into her world, she knows she's in trouble. After finding out about her devastating past, Liam offers to bring her back to life with physical passion. Madison thinks she should be repelled, but she's intrigued and can't turn him away. Together they explore days and nights of pleasure, and slowly develop into something more than bedmates.

Deep inside they each wonder if they've found their perfect match. But with Liam's fear of being dragged down by commitment, and Madison's fear of being hurt by another man threatening to destroy the world they’ve built together, will they each be strong enough and brave enough to risk their hearts to have it all?

First Chapter:

I can't even blame it on the booze. There wasn't any, or at least there wasn't any for me. I was with Chloe, my bodyguard. Okay, actually she was my friend, but a really overprotective friend who knew all about what I’d been through and wanted to make sure it never happened again. So, no alcohol.
But, what she and I hadn't counted on was him being there. There I was, minding my own business, putting in my time at the Med School Social, more than ready to head home for some studying, then Chinese food and a movie. And suddenly, him.

I was inhaling when I caught sight of him, but my breath just stopped. It felt like being punched in the chest. I kept telling myself, look away, look away! But it was impossible. I was paralyzed. His beautiful face and magnificent body were magnets, and my eyes were locked on them.
I hadn't felt this kind of physical attraction since, well, ever. I had never felt like that. I had stayed away from men for two years. I was pretty much terrified of them, to tell the truth. But there he was. Unavoidable and irresistible.

I saw him in profile. Oh, that hair. Thick, almost curly, falling into his eyes. The kind of hair you need to gently push off of his face right before you kiss him. Or, the kind of hair you grab really hard right before you're about to...

But, I'm getting ahead of myself. The point I'm trying to make is that my mind very clearly recognized all the dangers ahead and was saying, “Turn around, go, get out of here! Before it's too late.” But then he turned around to look right at me. It was already too late.

We held each other's gaze a second longer than politeness required. Something inside me went click, and for the first time in almost two years, I felt young and alive, and really, really turned on. Every part of me suddenly woke up, and all the best parts started to tingle. I was breathing harder. My lips parted slightly, already begging to be kissed.

It was a little overwhelming. I was out of practice. No, actually, I had never had the kind of practice you would need to stay controlled in a situation like that. I think maybe you can have a soul mate for your mind, and also one for your body. And my body was saying “Get me over there right now!”
But I was still too afraid. I smiled a little and turned away.

I had to stay for a while, to look sociable, so I went over to the food table and stared at the snacks, which were already stale. Nothing looked very good, and my throat was too tight to eat anyway.
I was starting to formulate a plan for escaping without the other students or the teachers noticing when I felt the air move behind me, the softest caress against my bare shoulders. Then, a hand on my back, an electric shock to my body, wildly pleasurable. I gasped and spun around. Right into the arms of...

“I'm Liam.”

Liam. Right into the arms of Liam. Oh, he was even more beautiful up close. My hand rose all on its own to push that wonderful floppy hair from his face. I stopped suddenly, embarrassed, but he caught my wrist, and held my palm gently to his face. We looked at each other and knew.

“Wanna get out of here?” he asked, and of course, foolish, foolish woman that I am, I said, “Yes.”

I saw him my first day at the new hospital. I'm a medical student and had just finished the lecture part of things where we sit around learning about chemical reactions and body parts. That was over, at last, and we were moving on to seeing real live patients in the hospital.

The orientation was step one in getting us ready for our new roles. We each got a short lab coat and a tour of the locker rooms. We received our ID tag photos.

I'm not sure why I first noticed Liam.

Since the bad thing happened, I keep my head down and make eye contact with pretty much nobody. I wear my hair in a tight bun at the nape of my neck and my clothes are dull and loose. On that particular day, I was trying very hard to concentrate. I was excited to be starting work in the hospital, but I was mostly terrified. There was so much to take in and remember. My head was reeling after only two hours. The last thing on my mind was men. So, who knows why I took that second look as he walked by our group.

Well, actually I do know why. He was gorgeous. Ridiculously gorgeous. Dark wavy hair, just slightly overgrown so he looked like a happy surfer who'd tumbled out of bed. Smiling eyes. Sparkling, mischievous, movie star eyes. A little bit of stubble, likely because he had been on call all night. The rest of him looked pretty much immaculate. He wore light wool pants and a sky blue shirt. No tie, but the white lab coat made him look professional enough.

I was dedicated to maintaining my nun-like lifestyle, but, seriously, it was impossible not to look at him. Even Chloe noticed him. She looked at him, then at me. She shook her head lightly and whispered, “No”. I laughed a little because she sounded like a mom telling a toddler that she couldn't have any candy. Well, that was pretty much what was happening, so I guess Chloe nailed that.
She was absolutely right. I didn't want any trouble. Certainly not that awful, frightening feeling of falling in love. No time-consuming romance. And certainly not all the time I had lost trying to recover from the trauma of what had happened before. Even a plain old tiny heartbreak could set me back, and put me way off course in my career.

No, I didn't have the time or energy for any distractions. Nothing. Just work and school.

So I ignored the stunning resident with the black hair, and tried to focus on the tall blond giving us the orientation spiel. This was much easier because I felt no attraction to him at all. He was really handsome, too. But something about him seemed mean. Or maybe arrogant. It's hard to remember what I thought of him that first time, because the memory is so clouded with all that came after. I'll just say he was a tall, slim blond who should have caught my eye, but didn’t.

Genre: Historical Fiction
Format: Ebook

Purchase at AMAZON Most of the vast audience attracted to the subject of Dracula know him only in his fictional, one-dimensional form: vampire! Yet the truth behind the historical character--voevode, warlord--of 15th C. Romania is at least as equally fascinating as any contrived account of his supernatural persona.   Vlad Dracula faithfully follows his life story as hostage, fugitive, prince, and prisoner. His principality of Wallachia was caught between two voracious predators: the kingdom of Hungary and the Ottoman empire. They tried to break Dracula with overwhelming force and terror. But Dracula turned their own tactics against them, and against criminals and factions in his own land, earning the name Tepes-The Impaler-in the process. He was a strange mix of husband, father, soldier, statesman, and berserker. He annihilated 50,000 people--one-tenth of his own population. Cursed by his native Orthodox Christian Church, he indeed evolved into a legend. But even today he is Romania's Robin Hood.

The Treasure of Kefer Shimon is the story of a young American priest given a secret assignment by the Vatican to track down the source of three ancient scrolls that have come into the possession of the Holy Sea. If the scrolls are genuine, they will cause a revolution in Biblical studies. Along the way he makes many startling and shocking discoveries deliberately kept hidden for centuries. Filled with historical fact masterfully woven with fiction, it takes David Lavarans on a journey into the secret dealings of the Vatican, into the ancient archives of a medieval Pope, into a Middle Eastern monastery, and into the Arabian Desert. Here, he makes a shocking discovery that has been kept hidden since the time of Christ. If revealed, the ramifications will rock biblical scholars and historians. David is neither heroic nor a pursuer of power. He is simply a young parish priest completely unaware of why he, among thousands of more prominent priests, is singled out for this mission by someone more powerful than the Pope himself. Ancient scrolls, the high ranks of the Vatican, a young American priest, the Middle East, and secrets that will shake the world of Christianity and the interpretation of the New Testament all play a role in this intriguing biblical adventure which spans 2,000 years.

Twas the Night Before Release Day by Linda Bond, author of Alive at 5

‘Twas the Night Before Release Day

By Linda Bond

‘Twas  the night before my first book release,
when  all thro’ the house
Not a family member was stirring
not  even my spouse.

Tomorrows Facebook posts were filed on my desktop with care,
In hopes that new readers would soon become aware;

My children were nestled iPhones next to them in bed,
while visions  of Amazon’s top 100  danced in my head

Lounging in sweat pants, my hair under a cap -
I hoped wine would settle my brain for a nap.

When out on the pool deck there arose such a clatter,
I jumped from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away to the back door I flew in a beat.
Threw open the door and stepped back from the heat.

The new moon splashed light on the back yard expanse.
The summer wind moving  the palm trees in  dance.
When, what to my tired eyes did appear,
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

With a fat jolly driver all dressed in red,
red t-shirt – red shorts – red hat on his head?
I knew at that moment I must really be drunk.
Or sadly over anxious, falling into a funk.
Had I done all the right things to make my book a success?
What was I missing?  Would tomorrow be a mess?

More rapid than lightning, his reindeer they landed
The big man jumped out while his team disbanded.

Like he could read my mind, he sprang onto my deck.
I jumped back, put my hands out, thinking what the heck?

His eyes how they twinkled – with knowledge, I think.
His nose was all cherry – maybe he’d like a drink? J

Before I could ask Santa, “Why are you here?
In Florida?
In July?
With all those North Pole reindeer?

He smiled, and laughed, his belly jiggling like Jell-O
And I knew in an instant he was a good fellow.

Then he spoke, his voice deep, like afternoon thunder.
His words raining down flooding me with wonder.

“Ms. Bond, I came here to see only you.
To make sure you understand what I came here to do.
To deliver your present, I traveled across the sky.
To give you a lesson – give you Christmas in July.”

“A lesson? Why Santa, I thought you did toys.
For babies and toddlers, good girls and good boys.”

“I bring you a gift so you can finally get sleep,
A present and a message I hope you will reap.

Your gift as a writer is making others disappear,
for an hour,  for a day,  for even a year,
into a world they can relax in – feel love - maybe escape.
You bring joy elicit tears, a difference you make.

By giving of yourself, you have already received
the greatest gift I could wrap, deliver, or achieve.
So, stop all this nonsense about lists and number one,
and remember you got into this just to have fun.”

Then he handed me a box – a twinkle in those wise eyes.
He turned and reloaded, took off for the sky.
When I opened that box  - only one thing inside.
A printed copy of my first book Alive at 5

I fought back the tears ‘cause I knew he was right.
Here I was still awake in the middle of the night,
worried about a day that had yet to dawn
when I had already had tons of real fun.

I finished that wine, tears still in my eyes.
As his sleigh blended in with the twinkling stars in the sky.

But, I swear he exclaimed as he rode out of sight,
Happy release day to all, and to all a good write.

Between the Bindings Narrative by Jean Hackensmith, author of Identity Crisis

Between The Bindings Narrative, by Jean Hackensmith

My approach to writing a novel has changed dramatically over the years.  I started nearly thirty years ago by reading every book I could find on writing.  I followed all the advice, starting with a synopsis, then a detailed outline, character sketches, timelines—the whole gamut.  Twenty books later (and twelve of them published) I have now discovered my own “system”, as it were.  I’m not saying this approach will work for everyone, but it does for me.

Obviously, my system begins with an idea.  I then begin to flesh out that idea by talking with a few family and friends who have a genuine interest in my writing and don’t mind discussing plot ideas for sometimes hours on end.  In fact, they have told me numerous times that they enjoy the process, also.  When I first started writing, I was very close-mouthed about my plot ideas.  I didn’t want to give anything away and ruin the story.  Well, as they say, it takes a whole community to raise a child and, in my opinion, the same is true for writing a novel.  Another old adage, “Two heads are better than one,” also holds true in this instance.  It is absolutely imperative that I have a community of faithful followers who are willing to help bring my stories to life.  People who truly care about what I do, offer constructive criticism, and let me pick their brains.  It’s amazing some of the ideas these people come up with; things I would never have thought of myself.

Next, I do compile a one page synopsis, highlighting the main story plot and any important details that I’m afraid I might forget if I don’t put them down on paper.  I abandoned the detailed outline, however, a long time ago.  I’ve often said that, once I get started, my books write themselves.  Inevitably, the finished product virtually never resembles the initial outline, so, for me anyway, that was just a waste of time.  I do still utilize a timeline, though; for me it’s a very useful tool.  Basically, every time I start a new scene or chapter, I add a brief description of what’s happening, along with the date, to the timeline—even if that scene is happening only a few days later.  It’s just easier than scrolling back to see how much time has passed since a critical event.  I also still use character sketches, identifying my main characters eye color, hair color, age, etc.  Again, it’s easier to just look at the character sketch instead of going back pages upon pages to see what color eyes I gave a certain character.

As I said earlier, my books tend to write themselves.  This happens as my characters develop throughout the course of the book.  They become like family.  I know them so well that it’s easy to say, “he wouldn’t do that,” or “she wouldn’t say that.”  It’s out of character for them.  Also, new scenes, new ideas, will continually crop up when I’m in the process of writing—things I never thought of before, things that simply seem to “fit” with the flow of the story.  Every scene, though, must advance the story in some way.  It must help to develop a character, or drop a clue, or foreshadow a coming event.  If it doesn’t, it just becomes fill and bogs down the story.

I also tend to use a LOT of dialogue in my books.  For me anyway, it makes for much more interesting reading if my characters are talking about key points in the story rather than just revealing them in narrative.  It also serves as a more interesting way to describe a scene.  In dialogue tags, I’ll have my characters moving toward the fireplace across the room, or touching an antique clock that sits on a table.  Much more interesting to read than just stopping the action and saying, okay, this is what the room looks like.  There’s a fireplace on the far wall, an antique clock on this end table, etc.

Finally, when YOU think the book is done, when you’ve read through it two, three, or a dozen times, give it to someone else to read.  In my case, my advance readers are the same family and friends who helped to flesh out the idea in the beginning.  This is not only a good way to find typos that you, as the author, might have missed, but it’s also a great way to discover any discrepancies in the story itself.  A lot of authors think they know the story better than anyone, and they do—and that’s why we will miss a LOT of things that an impartial reader will catch.  Authors tend to read right over typos, and the discrepancies may not be unclear to the author at all, because he or she knows the story and the characters so well.

I hope this helps any first time authors out there, if just a little.  In short, every author must discover a system that works for them and, through time and experience, you will discover yours.

ABOUT IDENTITY CRISIS

Title: Identity Crisis
Genre: Detective
Author: Jean Hackensmith
Publisher: Inkwater Press
Language: English
Pages: 260

When rumors of how Dan Hamilton actually died reach the Cheyenne Chief of Police, Brian Koski is forced to resign his position as captain of the Sixth Precinct and go into business for himself as a private detective. His partner? A mahogany colored Belgian Malinois named Sinbad. A former NYPD police dog, Sinbad is vicious when need be and reliable to a fault–unless a train goes by or there’s a thunderstorm, then chances are he will turn tail and run. Brian’s first clients are Jeff and Melody Patten. He’s an explosives expert for a local demolitions company, she’s a stay-at-home Mom. Both are devoted parents to their young daughter, Angela. The problem comes in the form of one Collin Lanaski, an unstable ex-Air Force lieutenant and Angela’s second grade teacher, who suddenly starts insisting that Angela is his daughter—the same daughter who died in a tragic car accident four years earlier.  What does Collin base this incredible revelation on?  Dog tags and car seats.  Brian is convinced the man has suffered a psychotic break.  He’s delusional and dangerous, and it becomes the P.I.’s job to protect Angela from a madman.

ABOUT JEAN HACKENSMITH

I have been writing since the age of twenty.  (That’s 37 years and, yes, I’m disclosing my age.)  I am the proud mother of three, stepmother of two, and grandmother to twelve wonderful children.  I lost the love of my life, my husband Ron, in November of 2011 when he died in an accident at work.  He took my heart with him and, for a time, my desire to write.  Time, as they say, heals all wounds, and I have again discovered my passion for the written word.  In fact, I find it strangely comforting to delve into the intricate webs that are my character’s lives and immerse myself in their existence instead of dwelling on my own. Next to writing, my second passion is live theater.  I founded a local community theater group back in 1992 and directed upwards of 40 shows, including three that I authored.  I also appeared on stage a few times, portraying Anna in The King and I and Miss Hannigan in Annie.  I am sad to say that the theater group closed its final curtain in 2008, but those 16 years will always hold some of my fondest memories. My husband and I moved from Superior five years ago, seeking the serenity of country living.  We also wanted to get away from the natural air conditioning provided by Lake Superior.  We moved only 50 miles south, but the temperature can vary by 20-30 degrees.  I guess I’m a country girl at heart.  I simply love this area, even though I must now enjoy its beauty alone.  I love the solitude, the picturesque beauty of the sun rising over the water, the strangely calming effect of watching a deer graze outside your kitchen window.  Never again, will I live in the city.  I am an author, after all, and what better place to be inspired than in God’s own back yard.

Psyche-Soul-ology: An Inspirational Approach to Appreciating and Understanding Troubled Kids is a companion text to At the Mercy of Externals: Righting Wrongs and Protecting Kids, 2nd Edition. Dr. Roberts presents a spiritually based application of his theories and the Roberts FLAGS Model detailed in his first book. His use of the term Psyche-Soul-ology focuses on the importance of addressing both the minds and souls of troubled kids. Of utmost importance is the need to look beyond the obvious external behaviors and problems of every kid, making an effort to see who they truly are relative to their unique potential for redirecting their lives. By looking into each kid it is possible to discover their uniqueness and encourage them to understand who they are intended to be, rather than who they are becoming. Dr. Roberts stresses the importance of complicating factors serving as obstacles to the progress of low income, disadvantaged kids. He focuses heavily on professional ethics and the need for both extreme compassion and full competence when working with troubled kids and their families. Both of these books are vital for parents and professionals if we are to fight against social injustices associated with poverty and other complicating factors.

Dr. Roberts, a proud father and grandfather, is also a licensed clinical psychologist, author, and college instructor, trained in California and living now in his home state of Alabama. His education, training experiences and worldview make him unique, and he is recognized as an expert with troubled kids and families.

Because of that you must use your faith wisely depending on the Lord. Faith is the main thing that you possess to control and overcome the affairs of the world. You will communicate with heaven as a faith practitioner and direct the affairs of life supernaturally:
 God will Direct Your Path by Faith

 Speak as it Ought to be
See your dream comes to pass as you feed on the Word of God believing what God has said will happen as you stay on board.
Speak the Word of Faith in the direction God gives you and never be regretted.
Reverend Afriyie is a Fasting and Prayer minister who was asked by the Lord to fast 2 forty days in a year. He was instructed to do this for a special ministry. Owusu Afriyie tested the waters of mandate and the Holy Spirit performed awesomely. This book will teach you faith that achieves.

The Lord advised Owusu Afriyie in May 3, 2010, to write books. He had a dream in late 90s of huge volumes of books, which indicates the writing assignments ahead of him. Afriyie always says to the Lord, “I am yours to command.” As the Prophet Samuel to the Lord, in the presence of the Priest Eli, so is Owusu.
Prophet Owusu Afriyie is a Fasting and Prayer organizer by divine calling. God led him to fast two, 40 days for 10 years, and one, 40 days for 3 years for His power and work (1999-2012). God told him to go in faith and prosper in the work after the fast was over. The Lord has directed him to go back to Ghana to start the work from there and enter other worlds. God has given him a mandate to do Crusades and Plant Churches. Owusu Afriyie says this looks impossible, but with God, it is a done deal. He sees it as God asked Abraham to go a place without a map. Finally, Abraham made it as God directing him from the inside out. Prophet Owusu Afriyie says he will make it, with the Mighty Holy Spirit (the Champion) inside him; the mandate will prosper and succeed with great optimism.
Owusu Afriyie is a theologian, graduated from Concordia University, and the founder of the Apostolic Creative Faith Ministries in Montreal, Canada. He is the senior minister of the Ministry. Prophet Afriyie is married to Boatemaa, and is the father of seven children: Millicent, Rose, Daniel, Joseph, Victoria, Theresa, and Samuel.

Interview with Robyn DeHart, author of 'For Her Spy Only'

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

Going after my writing dream. I never really questioned if I could do it, just jumped in and did my best to hone my craft and become as good a writer as I could be. I’m very proud of the books I’ve published.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?

I’d say in three major ways. First, my parents brought me up to believe that nothing was out of my reach, if I worked hard enough, I could accomplish what I set out to do. Secondly, my mother never said no when I wanted a book. She’s a reader (and a writer too!) and therefore books were always in our house, she always read to me, I certainly credit her with my love of story. And third, my parents have been married for 50+ years, how do you NOT write romance coming from that?!

When and why did you begin writing?

I don’t really remember a time when I didn’t write. It’s sort of always been apart of me and my goals.

What inspires you to write and why?

Partly what I mentioned before about my family – I love story and well, love and relationships are part of our lives. It’s natural inspiration.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?

Definitely historical romance. I think my voice is most natural there, especially Victorian-set historicals.

What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?

Beginnings are really difficult for me. I find it hard to start books because it takes me a while to really get to know my characters. Also the business side of writing is challenging because so much of it is out of your control.

Have you developed a specific writing style?

Style as in my process or style as in the way my books feel? I’d say yes to both questions. I have many tools in my writer’s toolbox, as I like to call it, and I utilize all of them. Not every method works for every book and I’m always willing to try new things, but for the most part, most of my books are written linearly and I write in drafts, focusing mostly on the dialogue the first round and then fleshing out as I progress. As far as the way my books come out, I think all of them have a definite Robyn DeHart feel to them. Some of my books have more adventure, like my Indiana Jones-esque series, the Legend Hunters, or more suspense, like my Jack the Ripper suspense series, or what I call my Scooby-doo mysteries, just light capers with quirky characters – they all feel like a DeHart book because my voice is there, my trademark characters, humor, etc. I hope one of those answers the question.

What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Judging from my reviews and fan mail, I’d say my characters. People often comment on how real they feel, how refreshing and relatable.

What is your favorite quality about yourself?

Probably my loyalty. Once I’m your friend, that’s it, I’m yours forever.

What is your least favorite quality about yourself?

I’m impatient and a bit hotheaded. My temper is quick and short lived, but I can be a bit “intense” as my husband AKA The Professor says. I think it’s just sass.

What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?

“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” Robert Schueller
