Salem, Colonial

The moment the stranger’s dark eyes meet hers, Anne Scudder’s world is immediately overthrown by chaos. That single flare of desire is immediate, driving away all notions of propriety. Instead, Anne is consumed with sinful thoughts—ones that no unmarried girl should ever have for a man who isn’t her husband…

But Josiah Cromwell is no stranger.

It’s been six years since Josiah stole kisses from Anne, his best friend’s younger sister. Six years since Josiah left after his best friend’s death, burdened by the knowledge that he was responsible for destroying Anne’s family. Now he’s returned to claim the woman he can’t live without. But even as their desire threatens to consume them both—body and soul—the dark workings of suspicion and witchcraft are afoot.

Because in Salem, too much passion can lead a woman to ruin… and condemned to death.

5 Reasons Authors are Scary

In the interest of full disclosure, I’d like to hereby admit that I’m an author. I should also admit this list could be a LOT longer. I mean, I have six kids and that’s enough to make most people run in terror, but for those of us who write for a living, there’s almost always a little something freaky under the surface—or perhaps a few little somethings. In that spirit, I give you these five reasons authors are scary.

1. We torture people on a daily basis. (Well, those of us who write daily, that is.) And that’s mostly your fault. I mean, if our books started with the HEA and went on to describe a boring Sunday morning pancake breakfast, you’d fall asleep in your syrup.

2. Our browser histories would have us arrested. I can kill someone, make a body disappear, pick a lock, trigger an explosion, order a hit, engineer corporate espionage…and those are just my contemporaries. If the FBI ever has reason to seize my computer, I’m screwed.

3. We invent these LIES, then we go public with our creations TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. Only they’re really not lies and they’re not really made up, because—reason 3.1 to be wary of authors—as far as we’re concerned, those characters really exist.

4. We secretly write you into our books. That character that seems a little too much like you? Yeah, that’s probably you.

5. Ever heard of that old adage to “write what you know?” We do that. I mean, it can’t ALL be fiction…which takes us back to #2. And also #4. And…wait, where are you going?

For those of you who stuck around (ahem), that’s my starter list. Readers…authors…I know you have more of these. Let’s have ‘em!
