2021 Reading Challenges Master List

Online Libraries - 25 Places to Read Free Books Online

If you are like me, you wait all year to find out what reading challenges are going to be hosted, which ones you are going to jump in and join, and then trying to decide books to choose to fulfill the challenge. I also love that it helps me not only find new sites to follow, but make new friends along the way.

I have decided to keep a Master List so if you hit my site you will be able to see which ones are available this year. If I am missing any, or you have one you want me to add please comment or send me a message. I will be doing individual posts once I decide which ones I will take part in.

Hope to see you at some of these challenges, and happy reading!

2021 Reading Challenges Master List

19 in 2021 Reading Challenge - 19 different categories to expand your reading selection.

2021 Reading Challenge - 24 different prompts for this challenge

The 2021 Reading Challenge - With different levels and different categories in each level, this one looks like a lot of fun!

The 52 Book Clubs 2021 Challenge - 52 prompts, 52 weeks. Looks fun!

52 Books in 52 Weeks - 52 categories, 52 books, if this sounds fun then this is for you.

Alphabet Soup Reading Challenge - It’s an alphabet challenge!!! The challenge is to read one book that has a title starting with every letter of the alphabet.

Around the Year in 52 Books - This one is a little different as it is hosted on Goodreads. Check it out, it looks interesting.

A to Z Reading Challenge - Think you can read a book that starts with each letter of the alphabet? This is the challenge for you. Along with mini challenges and an end of the year giveaway, this is one I'm going to try and tackle this year.

Back to the Classics - Looking to read classics that you have always wanted to read? Or maybe re-read some that you love? This is the challenge for you.

Beachcomber Mystery Reading Challenge - Think you can become a Beachcomber by filling up 4 beach bags while reading mysteries?

Beat the Backlist 2021 Challenge - Quite possibly my favorite challenge. Any format, any genre. Re-reads count, and you don’t have to own the book. There is also a great spreadsheet to help you track things.

Book Award Reading Challenge - This one looks great, read one award winning book per month, the thing I like most is the book award has to correspond with the month you are reading. So January you pick a book that won an award in January. Sounds fun!

Book Bingo 2021 - Looking to complete a Bingo card? Or maybe just complete a row? Check out this challenge!

Book It: 12 Books in 12 Months - Pretty self explanatory but it does give you prompts. Another one I'll have to check out.

Book to Movie Challenge - Just like it sounds, read a book that has been turned into a movie

British Crime Classics Challenge - The British Crime Classics Challenge has no rules whatsoever. As the title suggests, make sure to read Mystery Classics (on or before 1965) written by British Author(s).

The Booklist Queen 2021 Reading Challenge - Join thousands of others as we read a book a week in 2021. That’s right, this 2021 Reading Challenge has 52 different categories to expand your reading selection.

Books in Translation Reading Challenge - You can read a book that’s been translated from any language into the language of your choosing. The challenge is not limited to translations to or from English.

Build Your Library Challenge - Hygge is a Danish word that describes a lifestyle placing emphasis on coziness and happy living. So this year is all about finding your happy place – reading great books, lighting candles, eating foods that bring you comfort. Embrace the Hygge! Prompts for this one as well.

Color Coded Reading Challenge - Read nine books with the following colors in the title or cover: Blue, red, yellow, green, brown, black, white, any other color, and a word or image that implies color.

Chunkster Reading Challenge - This one is for reading any book over 450 pages. I have quite a few but will see if I want to commit to it, lol

Diversify Your Reading Challenge -This challenge features 16 prompts: 12 genre prompts, and 4 bonus categories. You’ll be reading from the prescribed genre each month, with an additional bonus read for each quarter.

Dystopia Reading Challenge - If you love dystopian novels, or are looking to try some out, this is the challenge for you.

Finishing the Series Reading Challenge - I am as guilty of this as anyone, so this looks like a great challenge.

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge - Any sub-genre of historical fiction is accepted (Historical Romance, Historical Mystery, Historical Fantasy, Young Adult, History/Non-Fiction, etc.) Different levels to sign up for.

Historical Romance Bingo - Just like it sounds, you read historical romance novels and try to get Bingo.

I Will Read All the Books on My Bookshelf Challenge - Not possible for me but this still looks like it could be fun. There are 7 prompts so I think I will join and try to complete those 7.

Language on the Move - As was the case previously, the Language on the Move Reading Challenge 2021 is designed to encourage broad reading in the discipline and beyond, and to make linguistics reading fun. Anyone with an interest in the intersection of linguistic diversity and social life can join.

Literary Escape Challenge - Try to read 1 book set in each of the 50 states + the District of Columbia.

Memoir Reading Challenge -Read a minimum of five memoirs from any of the categories listed. One book can only count for one category.

Monthly Motif Reading Challenge - A Motif, or theme, is given for each month. Your task is to read 1 book that fits the motif for that month.

Mount TBR Challenge - A challenge to tackle your TBR pile - different levels to sign up for.

New Release Challenge - Read books released in 2021 with multiple levels

PopSugar Reading Challenge - Read books that meet 40 random fun and interesting prompts. For an extra challenge read books that meet the 10 advanced prompts.

Pretty Mess Reading Challenge - Join me and many others as we read a book every two weeks in 2021. Yep, this Reading Challenge has 26 different categories to expand your reading selection. If you add in a book of your choice every two weeks then that’s 52 books, one for each week of the year.

Read Harder Challenge - Just as in years past, there are 24 tasks, averaging two per month over the course of the next 12 months. You may count one book for multiple tasks or read one book per task. The point of the challenge is to push yourself to expand your horizons and break out of set reading habits; the hope is that you’ll discover voices, settings, characters, formats, and more you may not have encountered without that nudge. Be accountable to yourself, share what you learned along the way, and enjoy the experience!

Reading Challenge 2021 - 20 prompts to help you choose some great books to read next year

TBR Reading Challenge - Your mission, should you choose to accept it: once a month pull a dormant book out of your TBR pile and read it.  On the 3rd Wednesday of the month, talk about that book. There are themes to this one as well.

Turtle Recall Reading ChallengeRead books set in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. This challenge isn’t to read the whole of the series as I know that is a big commitment. Just hop along reading the Discworld novels. Ones you still need to read or ones that you want to reread.

Uncorked Reading Challenge -  This reading challenge has 12 themes — one for each month — with books to inspire travel, inspirational fiction and nonfiction, and diverse, international reads. Book suggestions will be both heavy and fluffy.

While I Was Reading Challenge - 12 reading challenge categories for this one
