Book Beginnings on Friday

Rose City Reader hosts a weekly book meme called Book Beginnings on Fridays. Here are the details:

Welcome to Book Beginnings on Fridays, where we share the first sentence or so of the book we are enjoying this week. You can play along on your own blog, social media, or in the comments below.

If you post on your blog or social media, please link to your post in the linky below. Please link to your BBOF post not your home page or social media profile. If you want to participate in the comments, just leave a comment with the opening sentence of the book, along with the title and author's name.

If you post or share on social media, please use the #bookbeginnings hashtag so we can find each other.

MY BOOK BEGINNING:

I'm trying to clear space on my TBR pile...good luck with that. I've already purchased a few books this year, I just can't help myself. I am actually reading two books right now, If I Tell by Greg Olsen and Layla by Colleen Hoover. I will share from both.

Three sisters. Now grown women. All live in the Pacific Northwest. The eldest, Nikki, lives in the moneyed suburbs of Seattle, in a million-dollar home of gleaming wood and high-end furnishings.

This doesn't really tell you much about what this book is about, and even though I am only about halfway through it has been really interesting, disturbing and sad.

I placed two layers of duct tape over Layla's mouth before I came downstairs, but i can still hear her muffled screams as the detective takes a seat at the table.

After reading Verity last year, this author has quickly become one of my favorites. I am not very far in this book but so far it is great.

If you have read either of these I would love to hear your thoughts. Happy Reading!

  1. I have Layla on my Kindle...and now I am eager to read it. I also love the sound of If You Tell, and anything set in Seattle draws me in. Here's mine: “THE WIFE UPSTAIRS”

  2. The first book is set in Seattle and it is true? I live in the area and haven't heard of it. Hmm. Must do something about that. My Friday post

  3. That Layla opening--wow. That really pulls you in right away, doesn't it? I haven't read anything by either Hoover or Olsen, although I have heard great things about both. I hope you enjoy these! Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend!
