W.L. Brooks was born with an active imagination. When characters come into her mind, she has to give them a life- a chance to tell their stories. With a coffee cup in her hand and a cat by her side, she spends her days letting the ideas flow onto paper. A voracious reader, she draws her inspiration from mystery, romance, suspense and a dash of the paranormal.

Thank you for this interview! I’d like to know more about you as a person first. What do you do when you’re not writing? I’m either working on other things, reading, walking outdoors, binging my favorite shows, or keeping up with my three cats.
When did you start writing? I remember writing poetry and making up stories when I was a young girl, but I didn’t start writing fiction until I was in my early twenties.
As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life? Probably signing my first contract.
If you could go anywhere in the world to start writing your next book, where would that be and why? There are a few places I’d like to go, but Ireland is my first choice. Ireland always seems so full of magic, mystery, and amazing scenery, which are inspiring for this writer.
If you had 4 hours of extra time today, what would you do? Read!
Where would you like to set a story that you haven’t done yet? I’d like to do a story set in a magical realm.
Back to your present book, The Truth Behind the Mask, how did you publish it? I submitted my query letter and synopsis with The Wild Rose Press and was lucky enough to get a contract.
In writing your book, did you travel anywhere for research? No, unless going from my desk to the coffeemaker counts!
Why was writing The Truth Behind the Mask so important to you? This is the fourth book in my McKay Series, and I couldn’t wait to tell Alexandra McKay’s story. This character has been through a lot over the course of the series, so I really wanted to give her a happy ending.
Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is? Ideas just seem to pop into my head at odd times. I don’t know where they come from, but I’m always grateful for them.
