Ghost of the Gods Book Blitz!

About the Book
Was it the accumulated wounds to the environment that had finally triggered the nanotech plague or was it simply one more step in a shrewdly crafted plan to replace us with humans 2.0? As I write this at least one pair of these transhumans breathe the same air as us, and there are likely many more. They may look like us, they may even be almost human, but they are also cybernetic and will live for an extraordinary length of time. Trust me, their goals are not the same as ours. It was not a natural plague that almost drove humankind to extinction but an attack from within, turning our own biology against us. Scientists discovered all too late an artificial entity, a sentient machine foolishly created in the image of god, had been studying us and genetically altering us for longer than we can imagine. Perhaps it is because of this god-machine that we evolved into creatures who can think and speak and know our own mortality? This silicon god is so different from us that we may never truly understand it, but what we do know is that it is terrifyingly intelligent and it hates us. What we do know is that it tried to eradicate us from the face of our planet and then stopped for no discernible reason. What we do know is that its work is not done.

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?
My daughters. They have changed my life and made me a better person. I am also very proud of the fact that I make my living doing what I love. I want to be an example to my girls and show them that it is possible to live your dream.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
My grandmother was a voracious reader and often gave me books, like the complete Judy Blume set as well as Anne of Green Gables. As an adopted child, I fell in love with Anne and really identified with her. Like Anne, I’ve always wanted to be a writer and wrote stories and plays since I was a kid.
When did you first know you could be a writer?
This is a great question because I remember being told that I could never make a living as a writer so for many years I gave up on the dream. Then, when my kids were young, I decided to try to finish the novel I’d started years ago. I wrote every day during their naps and then one day, miraculously, it was done. It sucked. Don’t get me wrong. But simply finishing the book made me feel like I could really do this thing.
What inspires you to write and why?
Everything inspires me to write. An overhead conversation, lyrics in a song (Mustang Sassy was inspired by Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats), a TV show, something on the news, my family and friends. If I don’t write for a period of time, I feel like a dam with ideas piling up and that I might explode if I don’t get them down soon! I’ve started using voice memos when this happens and that helps.
What genre are you most comfortable writing?
My favorite genre to write is contemporary romance, hot and spicy! But, I also like writing fantasy romance and write fun fairy tale retellings under the name DL Snow. I like switching back and forth because they’re so different it’s like it feeds different parts of me.
Who or what influenced your writing once you began?
My local chapter of RWA hugely influenced me once I began to write. I thought finishing the book was the hard part. But I soon learned that it is only the very first step in becoming a writer.
What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?
The most challenging thing is overcoming my own personal insecurities, whether it’s feeling like what I just wrote really sucks or whether it’s overcoming self-sabotaging tendencies, like playing Sugar Crush or Scrabble instead of putting words on the page.
Do you intend to make writing a career?
Yes! Actually, writing is my day job. I have a part-time evening gig as a town councilor for my small town. Hot sexy-time scenes by day, budget and by-law meetings by night. Seems backwards, doesn’t it?
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?
“Work honestly, meditate every day, meet people without fear and play.” ~ Baba Hari Dass.  This quote is on the window right in front of me, reminding me to strive for balance in life.

When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?

Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have. And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?
Nicolette: Aside from becoming a mother to two amazing little boys and surviving it, lol… I would have to say becoming a published author. That has been the dream for as long as I’ve been able to dream, so to finally be here is a pretty amazing feeling.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
Nicolette: My mother has always been a lover of books and she taught me how important reading was at a young age. When I was home sick, she didn’t turn on the T.V. Instead she read me J.R. Tolkien and Robert Frost. Some kids make up stories and their parents discourage that. Mine bought me a journal and said, write it down.
When and why did you begin writing?
Nicolette: I wrote my first poem when I was in the third grade and I never stopped. I always loved the way books made me feel, the escape they gave me in a tiny house full of younger siblings. And I always wanted to recreate that feeling for someone else. That’s always the goal when I sit down to write. If I can’t make the reader feel something, if I don’t feel something when writing it, then I didn’t do what I set out to do.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
Nicolette: I was obsessed with weather when I was a kid, and living in tornado ally in Oklahoma, there was never a shortage of that. Our local meteorologist held a contest for kids to draw pictures of his weather pig. (Yes. He had a pet pig that he claimed helped predict the weather, lol.) I couldn’t draw, so I wrote a poem about his weather predicting pig. I won the contest and he put it on the air. I was hooked from that day forward.
When did you first know you could be a writer?
Nicolette: I guess I always had the want and the drive to be a writer growing up, but it finally felt like a reality when I got my first writing job for a local newspaper as a staff writer. My second story made the front page of the paper. That was a big moment for me.
What inspires you to write and why?
Nicolette: Lots of things inspire the stories I write. Everything from other books, music, documentaries, and even places I visit.
What genre are you most comfortable writing?
Nicolette: I’d have to say adult category romance. I’m a sucker for romance, so writing for the Brazen imprint has been a blast for me.
What inspired you to write your first book?
Nicolette: I started many first books, but I finally got the motivation to finish one after my second son was born. I can’t really pinpoint what it was that even made me want to write that story, but it was one of those ideas that you just have to write. So I stopped making excuses, and I did.
Who or what influenced your writing once you began?
Nicolette: Other amazing books I’ve read. I read everything I can get my hands on, at least two books a week usually. As a writer, that is the best way I can spend my free time. It’s fuel for the mind.
What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?
Nicolette: For me the answer to this is time management. I have two small kids, and I’m on my own with them a lot of the time. So, it’s always a challenge for me to give them what they need from me, and at the end of the day, carve out that time and say, “Okay. It’s time to go to work, and we aren’t stopping until we get X amount of words written.”
Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it?
Nicolette: I always try to walk away from a book knowing more than when I began and Tempted by the Soldier was no exception. With Nate being a search and rescue pilot in the Marines, there was a lot of research I had to do to get all of the details right.
Do you intend to make writing a career?
Nicolette: I am lucky enough that writing is my current and only career. I write full time, and am so thankful that I get to do what I love. And I get to work in my pajamas. That’s always a plus, lol.
Have you developed a specific writing style?
Nicolette: Yes. My writing style has always been very lyrical, and my YA voice still is. I had to find a happy medium with my adult books.
What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Nicolette: I’d say being able to write realistic characters and dialog.
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
Nicolette: I don’t take life too seriously. It’s good to remember to have fun sometimes and be silly. I like that at 32 years old, I still haven’t forgotten that.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself?
Nicolette: I am the world’s worst procrastinator!
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?
Nicolette: My favorite quote is actually a Dr. Seuss quote:

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”

ABOUT NICOLLETE DAY

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?
Parenting and step-parenting four great boys. Of course I realize that nobody’s perfect, but they are kind, and bright and funny. Great kids and I’m very proud of them all.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
Mostly in the sense that I had the balls to do it! My parents were always very supportive, so I was able to kind of jump in with enough strength to know I could handle the rejections and hard parts because I had a great support system growing up.
When and why did you begin writing?
I always liked making up stories when I was a kid, but I think I wrote my first poem for a school assignment when I was in fourth grade. It was pretty good for a nine year old, lol, and I still remember it! Here it is, ready? *clears throat*
I am a bubble flying high and free
A bubble with a rainbow inside of me
I’m flying over houses and a tall oak tree
And except for my rainbow, you can’t see me
I know it won’t be long
I’ll hit that oak tree and then be gone
But until that day I’ll fly around
Until my rainbow hits the ground
*curtsies* Not bad, right?!
When did you first know you could be a writer?
I didn’t really ever KNOW it for sure until I was doing it and someone paid me for my work. Until then, it was just a hope based on the encouragement of my English professors and family. I didn’t really wrap my head around it until I was like thirty-nine and was able to quit my day job and write full time.
What inspires you to write and why?
Watching people! Listening to my kids talk, looking at what’s going on around me. People are so funny and quirky, they are a constant inspiration. I try to make sure I incorporate those little weird things we all do into my characters because that’s what makes them relatable.
What genre are you most comfortable writing?
While I love writing adult romance, I honestly feel most in my element writing YA! I love reading it, love sort of falling into that younger voice.
Who or what influenced your writing once you began?
I read Stephen King’s book called On Writing, and I love his work anyway, so he is a huge inspiration. I also love Gillian Flynn (author of Gone Girl, Sharp Objects etc.) Her writing is so spectacular. While I’m writing in a different genre than both of those authors, I try to keep them in the back of my head at all times to challenge myself to create relatable characters and use visceral descriptions etc.
What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?
Looking at a blank page and realizing how far you have to go. It seems to me almost as daunting as building the Great Wall of China. Like, how is this even possible? I have to take it in chunks. One chapter at a time. I can write ONE CHAPTER, right?! If I think of it as a whole, especially when I’m writing YA and the books has to be 100, 000 words or so, I would curl into a ball and weep, lol.
Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it?
This book taught me that it never gets easier! Even after more than two dozen releases, I still need to set it aside for a while, go back in and make pretty major changes. I’ve come to the realization that I’m not a one draft write, in spite of how much I self-edit as I go. Although my writing is very clean (i.e. I don’t need a lot of line editing and there aren’t a lot of errors, per se) I still have content issues that require a lot of re-writing and all that. This book was no different!
Do you intend to make writing a career?
Yes! After three years of writing while working a day job as well, I was finally able to leave the day job last November and begin writing full time. It’s be a dream come true.
What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Humor. I try to find humor in everything around me, so that definitely plays into my writing as well. My heroines range from dry and snarky, to maybe a little clumsy and scatterbrained, to an I Love Lucy type character, always getting into jams etc. But one way or another, they always wind up a little funny. I can’t help myself :oD
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I guess my determination. When I set my mind to something, I’m not willing to accept defeat. I’m stubborn like that, lol.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself?
Probably the same as my favorite quality! My stubbornness is a double-edged sword. It’s a blessing a lot of the time, and then at other points, it’s a real problem. I have a hard time admitting when I’m wrong >.< And sometimes, when I should let something go, it takes me longer than it should.
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?
I love the Henry Ford quote : “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.”
I believe in that so much. The only thing holding us back many times is ourselves.

ABOUT TRACY WOLFF

Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. Now an English professor at her local community college, she writes romances that run the gamut from contemporary to paranormal to erotic suspense.

In an attempt to improve a system that allowed a small minority of the clergy to violate children and ameliorate the gross negligence of some bishops who recycled these predators, the American bishops instituted the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People in 2002. It is, unfortunately, doing the Church more harm than good. In Hope Springs Eternal in the Priestly Breast, Fr. James Valladares shows how justice and charity have been violated by some bishops in dealing with accused priests. He examines the pertinent canons that guide the Church’s judicial system and finds that these are often ignored or wrongly applied. He provides true cases that highlight the injustice of the process and the agony of priests who have been subjected to the charter’s draconian mandates. The Church has incurred tremendous financial losses because of settlements rising from both legitimate and false claims. Her image has been marred by the secular media, which has taken advantage of the crisis. Even so, we often fail to understand how trivial these are in comparison to the damage done to the priesthood by the enactment of the charter’s policies. This is the most pressing issue that the bishops need to address.

At his majesty’s service…or so he thinks.

With her job and her self-respect on the line, advertising executive and reformed bad-girl Zoe Keaton heads to Italy to score a vital business deal. Unfortunately, the guy she needs to convince is the wickedly hot—and totally closed-off—Prince Dominic Ricci, who has no intention of listening to her pitch. So with the queen’s help, Zoe does the only thing that will get the job done. She kidnaps him. But the joke’s on her when the queen’s matchmaking strands Zoe and the prince on the royal family’s secluded island. Zoe vows not to mix business with pleasure—and prove that she’s more than a spoiled rich girl who bought her way to success—but when the prince turns up the heat, the chemistry between them ignites. Is it just sizzling sex, or could an Italian prince with a tragic past fall for a take-no-prisoners American?
